勉強も研究も面白いのです

Benkyō mo kenkyū mo omoshiroi no desu

Both learning and research are fascinating.

In his April 2024 school talk, Suzuki contrasts learning inherited knowledge with exploring unanswered questions, then says both are interesting.

Language note: 勉強 means learning or study; 研究 investigates a question. Repeated も means both, while のです adds an explanatory tone. Readings:

勉強 (べんきょう / benkyō)

研究 (けんきゅう / kenkyū)

も (mo)

のです (no desu)

World Space Week begins internationally on October 4. Suzuki's work as an animal linguist offers a perspective on research and curiosity. Learning what is known and asking what is not yet known can both be a pleasure.

DJW practice example: 勉強したことから、研究の問いが生まれる。

Benkyō shita koto kara, kenkyū no toi ga umareru.

What we study can give rise to a research question.
