Meguru
To circulate; to go around
September 10 is Japan’s Sewerage Day. The 2026 campaign slogan includes 「ミライへめぐる」 (mirai e meguru), literally “circulating toward the future.” It connects the movement of water with the systems that sustain daily life.
Language note: 巡る describes going around, passing through a series of places, or returning through a cycle. 水が巡る (mizu ga meguru) focuses on movement through a system.
Follow something ordinary, such as water, beyond the point where you stop seeing it. Understanding its journey can change how you use it.
DJW practice example: 水が街を巡り、暮らしを支える。
Mizu ga machi o meguri, kurashi o sasaeru.
Water moves through the city and supports daily life.
The campaign excerpt retains its original hiragana: めぐる (meguru). 巡る is the vocabulary spelling taught here. The English renderings and practice sentence are DJW editorial work.
