豆腐

Tofu
October 2 is Tofu Day, created by the Japan Tofu Association to encourage people to enjoy this familiar food. The date plays on tō (10) and fu (2).
豆 (mame) means bean when used on its own; in 豆腐 (tōfu), it is read tō. October 2 plays on tō for ten and fu for two. This is 語呂合わせ (goroawase): matching numbers with sounds.
Familiar ingredients reward closer attention: a small change in texture, seasoning or method can create a different experience.
Practice:
今日は豆腐を使った料理を作る。
Kyō wa tōfu o tsukatta ryōri o tsukuru.
Today I'll make a dish using tofu.
